So what are some of the candle making techniques that professionals use to make great looking beautiful scented candles? Well there are many tips and tricks that they use however to be honest, most of the time they use special tools in order to create a unique look. These tools can be expensive and if you are new to making candles then you probably do not want to invest in to them just yet. So other than expensive tools and supplies what are some candle making techniques that you can use at home to make your candles look as though they were made by professionals?
Well there are many different things that you can do with your at home candle making projects to make them look professional, one of the main things to focus on is making sure that the wick is centered. This should go without saying but you would be surprised to see how many people have their wicks off center, this makes the candle burn unevenly and can prevent it from burning all the way down. If you are planning on selling your candles or giving them away as gifts then it is important to make sure that the wick is centered.
There are two ways to do this, the first way depends on if you are making a container candle or a stand alone candle. If you are making a container candle then you can glue the wick tab to the bottom center of the candle mold, this brings us to another point, always use a wick tab, they are really cheap and will save you time and make your candles look great. Now what about the wicks? The wick can move around, fall in the wax, and generally become a pain, so what do you do? All that you have to do is to take a pencil, pen, or chop stick, wrap the excess wick around the object and lay it across the rim of the mold. This is going to prevent the wick from moving around. It can be tricky at first as the wick must be tightly wrapped but it also needs to be relaxed enough to keep the wick tab in place.
The last of the candle making techniques we are going to go over has to do with creating an even pour and topping off the candle. When you pour the wax in to the mold make sure that it is even and level, as the candle dries a small dip will form around the wick, this needs to be fixed by pouring some more melted wax in to the dip to make sure that the candle dries evenly.
